FTP does not work at Starbucks free WiFi?

Does anyone have the same problem? I live in Toronto and tried 3 different starbucks in the area. I can access web pages, and download large files from youtube or what not, but just can’t use FTP. I tried both FTP from command line (Win XP), and some FTP client program. It lets me connect and login, but whenever I start downloading (get) file or put files, it gets stuck. IS this a problem with my setup / config? or are they intentionally blocking me?

They are intentionally blocking you for security reasons. They wouldn’t want to let people use FTP in their store because if you wanted to upload something and not get caught, say illegal illicit images, that’d be the ideal place.
