Top Television Hosts

Besides the most obvious late night hosts I endeavor to list some of the new television and variety show hosts besides the ones you may already know. Everyone knows of Jay Leno and David Letterman but some of these people listed could possibly be the heirs to the late night thrones in time. Check out the list of some of the top and up and coming television hosts below, many of whom you can see on tv online for free the day after their show airs.

Alexa Chung

A new face in America, Chung is well-known in the UK as a frequent television presenter and host of style and arts shows as well as her work in print journalism writing for British women’s magazine Company and The Independent. In 2009 she was given the role of hosting “It’s On with Alexa Chung,” an interactive music, talk and variety show on MTV.

Chelsea Handler

Both a stand up comedian and a host of the late night E variety and talk show “Chelsea Lately”, Handler has distinguished herself from her peers with her forthright, often vulgar personality and ability to get away with saying things that people assume women shouldn’t or won’t say. Handler’s success even reached the point where she was approached by Playboy to appear non-nude on two different covers of the December 2009 issue.

Jimmy Fallon

Fallon had the unenviable task of hopping into the much loved late night seat of Conan O’ Brian but has done an admirable job of making the show and the position uniquely his own. Some of that success is due to Fallon’s youth and ability to stay in touch with some of the popular viral and social networking tools at his disposal to keep his show fresh and to create water-cooler moments in each episode. His obsession with kitschy 80s nostalgia can be a bit overwhelming but his heart is in the right place.
